Chronology of cameras Fotofex
Traduction de Sylvain Halgand.
The engineering of this atypic folding has been implemented by Mr Fritz Bedrich Frédéric Kaftanski. The camera was built in Berlin by his company Fotofex and was first displayed to the public in the Leipzig fair in spring 1931.
At a time when, in Germany, the plate enthusiastics used to argue with the rollfilm fans, it may seem clever to propose a camera able to use both types of negative supports.
This has been done ...
With this camera, you may therefore load a rollfilm and take pictures but you simply have to insert a blinding plate at the rear and rotate the front of the camera (see photo) to be able to use plates instead (even if the rollfilm is not fully exposed). After plates have been exposed, you may come back to the film and finish the roll.
The camera shown on this page is fitted with a Jos. Schneider & Co Kreuznach Xenar lens on Compur shutter. A variation did exist with a Trioplan on Pronto.
Unfortunately the adapter for ground glass back as well as plateholder were missing on the camera when I found it.
